Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren-led delegation likely to meet Home Minister Amit Shah over caste census
A delegation led by Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren is likely to meet with Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss the caste census.
Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren will head a delegation that is likely to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday to submit a memorandum demanding caste census, sources said.
Sources said the meeting will be held days after Hemant Soren wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 7 seeking an appointment with the delegation over the issue.
Hemant Soren had also sought PM Modi's time to discuss the issues related to caste census and identification of Sarna tribals in the census.
Earlier, an 11-member delegation, led by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 23 demanding a caste-based census. They said that the prime minister heard their demands and added that the delegation had asked him to take a decision on the issue.
"PM Modi heard our demand of a caste census, and we hope he will consider it. He has not denied our demand so far. We have asked him to take a decision," Nitish Kumar had said after the meeting.
